Bowing to students’ demand, NTA postpones JEE Main to June-July
Nagpur: TOI Nagpur’s Facebook page was flooded with comments during the Debate which was streamed live on the social media page through a video platform. There were seven participants — students, parent and expert — from different parts of the country who deliberated upon the central government move not to postpone JEE.
A large number of students watched it live and shared their comments which kept coming thick and fast. Everyone wanted to be heard and were thankful to TOI for providing the opportunity to voice their views. Every comment conveyed the message loudly: Postpone the JEE till the board exams are over.
Late in the evening, the National Testing Agency issued a circular that the JEE has been postponed from April-May to June-July. The revised dates are available on the official website.
While Prakash Dwiwedi said “can't manage JEE and boards at same time”, Om Singh added that JEE has “4 times more syllabus”.
Soubhik Ghosh has not slept properly since 20-25 days “due to pressure of both exams”. Holding JEE towards the end of boards will “reduce stress” for Sushant Jain. “In JEE we have approximately 90 chapters, whereas in board we have 5-6 chapters,” said Ayush Pandit.
As the pattern is different for boards and JEE, it is difficult to focus on both, according to Ashish Shivaay. “Our batch has been experimented with in the last two years,” he added.
Students are okay with government allowing only two attempts instead of four but want JEE only after the boards. Two attempts are fine according to Arham Naqvi and Aaditya Gupta as “the chances of improving is 1-2% only”.
Harsh Kumar suggested some dates: “First attempt in mid-June, second attempt in July-end and JEE Advanced in August-end.”
For Rekha Shrivastava, having centres in different cities is also an issue. “After giving a board exam, how can a student run to other city for JEE.” Anushka Jha doesn’t know “which exam centre” she will get.
Aditya Srivastava was at the receiving end in both Covid waves. “They should compensate for my losing an academic year.”
