Bharat Vikas Parishad to elect national panel at Nagpur meet

Nagpur: Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) will elect its national committee for a two-year term during its national council meeting to be held at Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir, Reshimbag, on Friday and Saturday. More than 300 state, regional and national-level office bearers from across the country are expected to participate in the proceedings.The election of the national leadership, including national president, secretary and treasurer, will be conducted during the meeting, which will also include discussions on organisational expansion, service activities, cultural initiatives and future action plans. The sessions will review the Parishad's ongoing programmes and outline priorities for the coming term. The meeting is being hosted by the Parishad's Vidarbha unit.
State president Padmakar Dhanorkar and state general secretary Aswari Varkad said preparations for the national-level event are complete.National president and former former Supreme Court judge, Justice (retd) Adarsh Kumar Goel, said the meeting will be inaugurated on Friday at 10am by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh joint general secretary Mukund Rao. National general secretary Durga Dutt Sharma said the organisation has mapped the country into 10 regions and 80 provinces to streamline co-ordination and implementation of activities. Work is being carried out across these regions with a focus on social development.National organisation minister (Sanghatan mantri) Suresh Jain said the Parishad, established in 1963, currently operates through over 1,600 branches with a membership base of more than 85,000 families. Describing it as a culture-oriented, apolitical and voluntary organisation, he said it works towards nation-building inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. In Nagpur, there are 6 shakhas and over 250 families are associated with the BVP.In the service sector, the Parishad runs 13 disability centres that provide approximately 30,000 prosthetic limbs, calipers, crutches and related support every year. To date, more than 3.5 lakh prosthetic limbs were distributed and over 8,000 polio surgeries were facilitated. Under the "Anemia Free India" campaign in 2025, more than 4.08 lakh women benefited from free testing and treatment services. In the coming year, each branch plans to adopt 10 economically weaker families to support self-employment and self-reliance initiatives.The organisation also operates medical facilities including BVP Kota Hospital, a diagnostic centre in Chandigarh, Divyang Trust in Patna, Vivekananda Health Center in Gurugram and Dr Suraj Prakash Health Center in Faridabad. These centres offer heart surgeries, dialysis, MRI and other diagnostic services at concessional rates. Last year, over 22 lakh patients availed services at these facilities.
