Amravati police seize 2.8kg MD worth Rs3 cr, arrest 2 suspects

Amravati: The Amravati police crime branch arrested two youths and seized 2.88 kgs of mephedrone (MD) estimated to be worth Rs3 crore on Sunday evening. According to police sources, the Crime Branch team received a tip-off that two youths were arriving in the city through the Lalkhadi-Sukali road to sell MD drugs. Police laid a trap around 6.15pm and detained the suspects, identified as Abdul Fahim Abdul Rahim (25), a resident of Azad Nagar, and Sheikh Ayan Sheikh Ramzan (20), a resident of Dwaraka Nagar in Amravati. A thorough search led to the recovery of the MD drugs from their possession.
A case has been registered at Nagpuri Gate police station. Police inspector Sandeep Chavan led the operation. Police are investigating the source and intended distribution network of the seized drugs. Police are also investigating whether the duo was involved in other similar cases and their connections with other drug peddlers in the city. As per police, the seized MD drugs were kept in two separate packets, and the accused were trying to sell them to local buyers. The police have also seized the vehicle used to transport the contraband.The police have appealed to the public to come forward with information about any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking, assuring them of confidentiality and protection.
