Nagpur: An Afghan citizen residing in Nagpur was assaulted in Yadav Nagar Sweeper Colony, under the limits of Yashodhara Nagar police station, late Saturday night. The complainant alleged that he was attacked and threatened after being accused of being a ‘terrorist.' Following the incident, Yashodhara Nagar police registered a case against three accused and arrested two, with a minor in juvenile custody, as confirmed by senior PI Ramesh Khune.The complainant, Fahim Khan Mohammad Mamatul Mard, aged 46, a clothes trader residing in Bada Tajbagh Sartaj Colony, lodged the complaint on July 28. According to the FIR, Fahim Khan visited Yadav Nagar around 11:30 pm on July 27, accompanied by his friend, Namasmir Khan, to buy a second hand refrigerator from their another friend named Sameer Khan. Fahim is on a business Visa and is residing in India since last 7 years, confirmed PI Khune. As Fahim Khan and his friend were leaving the location in Sweeper Colony, accused Ajay Chavan, approximately 26 years old, allegedly approached and questioned Fahim's presence. The accused reportedly called him a ‘terrorist'. Upon Fahim Khan's response, Chavan allegedly became aggressive and started assaulting him with a baton.
Two other accused — Rishi Tambe, approximately 20 years old, and a minor — also arrived on a bike and joined the assault. The FIR states that Ajay Chavan picked up a cement block and struck Fahim on the head two to three times, causing injuries to his head and chest.Further, the accused reportedly threatened to kill Fahim if he complained to the police. During the incident, stones were thrown, which broke the windshield of Fahim's car bearing the registration number from West Bengal.Police registered a case under sections 109(1), 296, 115(2), 127(2), 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). PI Khune also confirmed that the minor has been sent to juvenile custody, whereas the other two accused have been sent to PCR till July 30.
