He was admitted to Alexis hospital. Here, neurosurgeon Dr Hussain Bhati, neurologist Dr Abhishek Wankar and their team performed a surgery to save him. But his health deteriorated and he was declared brain-dead by team of doctors on October 19. Dr Mrunal Khonde counselled the family for organ donation.
“Mishra’s daughter Ankita, his brother-in-law Kedar Kant Hota and nephew Sudhanshu Mishra readily agreed and gave written consent for both kidneys and liver,” said Veena Wathore, who coordinated this transplant on behalf of the ZTCC.
“Two kidneys and liver were retrieved. First kidney was allocated to a 23-year-old male patient at Alexis Hospital itself while second kidney was transported to Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI). It was allocated to 44-year-old female patient. Liver was transplanted on a 54-year-old male patient at Meditrina Hospital,” informed ZTCC President Dr Vibhavari Dani. It was the first liver transplant at Meditrina hospital and Nagpur’s 60th organ retrieval and transplant since 2013.
“With 103 kidneys, total 164 solid organs have been retrieved since 2013 in Nagpur. This year, 38 solid organ transplants were carried out successfully till now,” said Dr Ravi Wankhede, secretary of ZTCC. He stated the forensic procedure necessary for the transplant was done at GMCH. Dr Anindya Mukharjee and Dr Naresh Tirpude completed it.
