Nagpur: In a daring monsoon operation in flooded Gadchiroli, 600 elite C-60 commandos supported by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Quick Action Teams (QAT), stormed the heart of Abujmarh, the once impregnable but now tottering Maoist headquarters and dismantled a key rebel camp in pounding rain and shot dead at least four guerrillas.
The intelligence-driven crack operation — the first-ever monsoon offensive in Abujmarh — kicked off at 6.15 am on Wednesday on the Gadchiroli-Narayanpur border. Four bodies of guerrillas, including three women cadres were recovered along with a haul of weapons, dealing a crushing blow to the insurgency. Police are trying to ascertain identities of the slain Maoists, and a search is on for more bodies.
The commandos navigated mine-laden jungles and swam through neck-deep nullahs and raging rivers in marooned Bhamragarh taluka, which is cut off from the rest of the region due to the swollen Parlakota river.
