As the US imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent admitted that India-US relations are “complicated” but predicted that “at the end of the day” the two nations will “come together.” Speaking to Fox Business, Bessent stressed that while disputes over Russian oil imports and a stalled trade deal have sharpened tensions, the broader foundation of ties between the world’s largest democracy and the world’s largest economy remains resilient. With Indian exports like gems, textiles, and auto parts hit hardest, Bessent reminded that India still holds immense strategic weight in Washington. Will the two sides bridge their tariff divide or is this just the beginning of a prolonged trade war?
