MYSURU: Software engineer and academician B S Mahananda on Saturday said computer aided detection of Alzheimer's disease will help the doctors to fathom the gravity of the disease and plan the treatment better than conventional line of treatment. Speaking at a session on Alzheimer's disease and how it can be treated best by using modern computer aided gadgets, he said a normal psychiatric test can help the doctors to analyze the symptoms of the disease, but only mini mental status examination by CDR technology can reveal the memory loss symptoms accurately.
For now the cause of the disease is unknown, if doctors find the cause they can cure the disease by treating the cause, he claimed and said according to experts of WHO there will be 30 million Alzheimer patients by 2048.
Dangerously, 3.7 million people in India and 5.3 million people from America are suffering from the disease, he pointed out reminding the WHO warning that in the coming years Asians are more prone to disease and their number may increase manifold.
Mahananda said despite best research on the disease all over the world, especially in America doctors have failed to find the cause and work out a treatment and computer aided diagnosis will help the doctors to treat the disease at its initial stages preventing the patient from suffering.
