CHIKMAGALUR: The Centre for National Theatre in Peninsular India will begin in the state once the land is available, according to B. Jayashree, noted theatre personality and Rajya Sabha member.
Jayashree said the institute's aim is to create awareness on different Indian language theatres. She said she has submitted a proposal along with a plan to the Union government and the theatre will be established in a district headquarters, where necessary infrastructure is available.
The theatre activist said she will seek help from the state and central government and claimed that she is offering financial assistance to small drama theatres in different places under Member of Parliament Area Development Fund.

She said professional drama companies in Mysore were fading fast, but its presence is still visible in North Karnataka. Playwrights need to focus on the impact of ITBT, globalization and its impact on our social fabric and waning relationships in the family system, she added.
