Repeat Violations can cost your licence in Mysuru

Mysuru: Mysuru city police have intensified action against drunken and reckless driving by recommending suspension of driving licences. Transport authorities said suspensions ranging from one to six months are routine.Last week, police sought suspension of the licences of 152 motorists booked during a special drive from March 1 to 7 — 111 for speeding and 41 for drunken driving.Commissioner of police Seema Latkar told TOI the move is part of efforts to improve road safety and traffic discipline. She has directed traffic police to step up recommendations against errant and repeat offenders. Police said such drives will continue.Assistant commissioner of police (traffic) M Shivashankar said motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol, overspeeding or driving in a manner that endangers public safety will face suspension proceedings. Fatal accident cases linked to negligent or dangerous driving will also be considered.He said the action aims to reduce violations and improve compliance with road rules in the city.Regional Transport Officer (East) SN Madhura told TOI that once the police submit the violation details, notices will be issued to motorists, who will have a chance to respond before a decision is taken. The suspension period will depend on the seriousness of the offence.Until the end of Feb, the East RTO suspended 34 licences and initiated proceedings in 36 cases — 28 for other offences and eight for drunken driving, Madhura said.Police said sustained enforcement is essential to bring discipline on the roads and warned that serious or repeated violations will attract not just fines but suspension of driving privileges.
