MLA stresses equality at Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations
Mysuru: Emphasising the relevance of equality in today's times, former minister and Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait on Tuesday said that every individual must imbibe in their lives the ideals of equality and the spirit of struggle upheld by Constitution architect BR Ambedkar.He was speaking after inaugurating the 135th birth anniversary celebrations of Ambedkar, organised at Kalamandira by the district administration, zilla panchayat, Mysuru City Corporation, social welfare department and a federation of organisations associated with Dr BR Ambedkar and Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram.Sait stressed the need to educate the younger generation about the lives, struggles, sacrifices and thoughts of great leaders.He noted that Ambedkar was not merely a leader of the Dalits but a scholar of immense knowledge and intellect who was entrusted with drafting the Constitution. He urged students to prioritise education, stating that knowledge can transform both individual lives and society.Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda said that society has not yet fully succeeded in taking Ambedkar's ideals and philosophy to the masses.Congress MLCs D Thimmaiah and K Shivakumar, Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority vice-chairperson Pushpa Amarnath were present.
Prior to the event, floral tributes were offered to the statue of Ambedkar at the Town Hall premises by Chamundeshwari MLA GT Deve Gowda and JD(S) MLC CN Manjegowda, following which a procession was flagged off.The procession, accompanied by various cultural troupes, moved from the Town Hall to Kalamandira, carrying a grand portrait of Dr Ambedkar.Regional commissioner Nitish Patil, deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, additional deputy commissioner Shivaraju P and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
