Mandya MLA directs action on illegal liquor outlets
Mandya: Mandya MLA P Ravikumar Thursday directed officials to take stringent action against the growing number of unauthorised liquor outlets, stressing the need to safeguard public welfare.Chairing the Quarterly Progress Review (KDP) meeting at zilla panchayat's Cauvery Auditorium, he called for strict enforcement of laws to curb illegal liquor sales.On healthcare, Ravikumar instructed officials to ensure an adequate stock of essential medicines in govt hospitals to avoid inconvenience to patients. He emphasised the need to appoint doctors at Basaralu Govt Hospital to provide round-the-clock services and directed officials to maintain 24x7 ambulance facilities for timely medical care.In the education sector, he proposed organising summer camps to keep students engaged during vacations and to encourage enrolment in govt institutions. He ordered the timely distribution of uniforms under the Vidya Vikasa scheme for the 2025–26 academic year and directed verification of land records of govt schools for proper registration.Addressing agriculture, the MLA asked the agriculture department to ensure sufficient availability of seeds and fertilisers and to conduct awareness drives on govt schemes for farmers. He directed the animal husbandry department to educate livestock owners on compensation schemes and documentation procedures in case of animal deaths.Highlighting welfare measures, Ravikumar stressed the need to provide quality nutrition to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children through Anganwadi centres, including doorstep delivery for new mothers. He also called for monthly reviews of the govt's five guarantee schemes to address implementation gaps.To ease student travel, he urged the introduction of additional bus services during peak hours. He instructed power officials to minimise outages during summer and ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply for farmers, and directed officials to closely monitor all villages to prevent drinking water shortages.He also called on the social welfare department to maintain hygiene and food quality in hostels, urged regular inspections, and asked officials to interact directly with students to address grievances. Senior district officials and representatives from various departments were present at the meeting.
