Mandya: Maintaining peace and harmony in society while ensuring unity among all communities is the foremost responsibility of the police department, said retired sub-inspector Dasappa.He was speaking at the Police Flag Day organised by district police at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) parade grounds in Mandya. Dasappa referred to the state anthem penned by renowned poet laureate Kuvempu, which describes Karnataka as a ‘garden of all communities.' He emphasised that safeguarding this harmony and social unity remains primary duty of the police force.Highlighting the district's progress, Dasappa said Mandya has witnessed notable development in political, economic and social spheres and has also emerged as an important tourist destination. He noted that Karnataka police has set an example in handling cybercrime, disaster management and law enforcement, while Mandya district has maintained a stable law and order situation. He urged police to remain committed to their responsibilities and lauded the department for its round-the-clock service.SP VJ Shobharani said, "April 2 is observed every year as Police Flag Day and Police Welfare Day to mark the implementation of Karnataka police act. The occasion is dedicated to honour retired police personnel from all ranks who have devoted their careers to public service." She explained that funds raised through the sale of police flags are used for the welfare of retired personnel. According to the top cop, 50% of the proceeds are credited to retired police officers' welfare fund, while the remaining 50% is allocated to the central retirement welfare fund. She noted that 27 police officers and staff members from district retired between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. Additional SP Thimmaiah and Gangadhar Swamy were also present.
