Intensify efforts to achieve zero infant mortality: Mys ZP CEO

Mysuru: Calling for intensified efforts to achieve zero infant mortality in the district, zilla panchayat CEO S Yukesh Kumar on Tuesday directed health officials to implement focused action plans.Speaking during the district health society review meeting, he noted that Mysuru district reported nine maternal deaths in the year 2025 (Jan to Dec). While the state's maternal mortality ratio stands at 69, the district maintained a significantly lower rate of 32.2, reflecting improved maternal healthcare services. With regard to infant mortality, 311 cases were reported by the end of 2025. However, the district's infant mortality rate of 11.1 remains well below the state average of 19.
Emphasising preventive care, Yukesh Kumar highlighted the crucial role of RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram) medical teams in identifying malnourished children and ensuring their timely admission to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres. He appreciated 123 health centres across taluks such as Mysuru, Nanjangud and T Narasipura for securing national-level certification under the Kayakalpa programme for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and quality healthcare.The CEO also directed officials to expand the Gruha Arogya home healthcare scheme to urban areas in accordance with govt guidelines. Stressing accountability, he instructed strict monitoring of high-risk pregnancies, promotion of institutional deliveries, and proper updating of beneficiary data on portals like Seva Sindhu.He called for achieving 100% vaccination coverage to eliminate measles-rubella and urged coordinated action to curb social issues such as child marriage and illegal foetal gender detection. As the financial year 2025-26 draws to a close, he mandated that all national health programmes must achieve full physical and financial progress through effective planning and rigorous follow-up.
