Illegal drug supply network busted, 2 held

Mysuru: City Crime Branch sleuths of Mysuru city police has uncovered an illegal drug supply network by arresting two accused from Bengaluru, and confiscating MDMA worth Rs 5.1 lakh and marijuana worth Rs 1.3 lakh from them.The seized items include 51 grams and 83 millilitres of MDMA and 2.2kg of marijuana, prohibited substances. A four-wheeler worth Rs 3 lakh used for transporting drugs has also been seized from them, police said on Tuesday.
The accused — Pramod R, 27, and Vikas M, 23, both residents of Bengaluru — were arrested, and a case was registered against them at Metagalli police station. They are remanded to judicial custody by a local court, a release said.The operation was conducted under the guidance of CCB ACP Mohammad Sharif and police inspector Shabbir Hussain.Public help crucial to curb drug sales: ASPMysuru district additional superintendent of police Mallik C on Tuesday said public cooperation, along with support from various govt departments, is crucial to curb the drug sales network effectively.Presiding over the Narcotics Coordination Committee meeting at the district police superintendent's office auditorium, the ASP emphasised the need to identify drug addicts and provide them with counselling through de-addiction centres to help them recover.The police department is conducting several raids, but public cooperation is required, he stated.There were cases where sleeping pills were purchased without a doctor's prescription and used as drugs. Strict action will be taken if such medicines are sold in medical stores without a doctor's prescription, Mallik warned.DCP (crime), Mysuru City, KS Sundar Raj said a new initiative called "Vimukhti" was launched by Mysuru police, and it is an anti-drug campaign. Public may pass on information about drug dealing or consumption to police. If information about drug sales is provided, the informant's identity will be kept confidential.
