Girl dies after swing turns into noose

Shivamogga: A heart-wrenching incident was reported from Shivamogga where a 9-year-old girl lost her life after a makeshift swing accidentally turned into a noose. The tragic mishap took place on April 20.The victim, Pranamya from Vidya Nagar, travelled to her aunt's house in Lakkinakoppa a week ago for summer vacation.According to police sources, the incident took place when Pranamya was playing alone in a room. It is reported that she locked the door from the inside to avoid being teased by her cousins. Using a lungi/ panche (a long traditional cloth), she made a makeshift swing to play with. During the course of her play, the cloth loop tightened around her neck, leading to accidental strangulation.The gravity of the situation was realised only after a considerable amount of time passed without any sound from the room. When her aunt checked on her and the family managed to open the door, they found the young girl had lost consciousness. However, they took her to hospital where she was declared dead.Her father left the family seven years ago and mother Nagaveni is working as a coolie. She has a younger brother.Tunga Nagar police registered a case and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
