Free orthopaedic robotic surgery soon at PKTB trauma care centre in Mysuru
Mysuru: Patients in the Mysuru and Old Mysuru regions will soon be able to undergo advanced orthopaedic surgeries at no cost at the state-run trauma care centre located within PKTB Hospital premises on KRS Road here.Speaking to TOI, dean and director of Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) Dr KR Drakshayini said that state govt has sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the purchase of orthopaedic robotic surgery equipment. "We will soon initiate measures for its installation," she said.After medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil accorded approval, the hospital began preparations to purchase the equipment. A demonstration of the system was recently conducted at the hospital, sources said.Doctors said the trauma care centre has treated more than 1.2 lakh patients over the last three years, of whom 34,983 underwent surgical procedures.Nodal officer of the trauma care centre Dr Neelanagowda Patil said, "Orthopaedic robotic surgery is an advanced technology that improves precision and efficiency in procedures such as joint replacements, spinal injury treatment and fracture repairs. It reduces human error, minimises tissue damage and accelerates patient recovery," he said.
