MYSURU: Teachers of private schools are a tired lot and they are cursing the government for entrusting this tedious job of enlisting various social groups and their social and economic background. Most of the enumerators involved in this unique caste census exercise are teachers from private schools as the government school teachers have opted out of the job citing various reasons.

“ Sir eighty percent of the teachers involved in this caste census are from private schools as we live at the mercy of the government for the aid” Sumathi(name changed ) a teacher from noted English medium school in city’s Saraswathipuram area complained cursing her fate for doing this job. Even teachers from these private schools are not happy about the remuneration as they will get only Rs 5000 for the task of counting at least 150 houses or families . Each day they have to spend at least five to six hours for his work . In addition to this the teachers are getting exhausted in going round the houses braving the scorching heat of the summer sun .
Another teacher Ramani was seen cursing the census for its intricacies “ we have to ask more than 55 questions to the family head or person residing in a particular house , but most of them shut their doors on us asking us to come next day or sometime else when they are free” she pointed out and asked” how we should know that when they are free” . She disclosed that sometimes residents criticize them for doing the job sincerely . “ Why you are bothered about my personal life, whether you want to provide reservations in jobs to our children , we have not received any thing from the government since independence and what is use now for us when we are leading the life independent of the governments” was the reaction of a Brahmin chartered accountant from city , Sumathi claimed revealing how embarrassing are questions and queries from the people to them.
