Eco activist Srinivasa Murthy passes away

Chikkamagaluru: Srinivasa Murthy Mundagodu, a farmer from Sringeri, passed away at the age of 57. A pharmacy graduate, Murthy earned admiration for his deep knowledge of Malnad's challenges, including rain patterns, the impact of developmental projects on the Western Ghats, and human-wildlife conflicts. His insightful writings on rural life and the struggles of the agricultural sector garnered a significant following.He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.A condolence meeting at Sringeri Kannada Bhavana brought together associates, farmers, and activists who shared memories of Murthy's life and contributions. Among those present were activist Kalkuli Vittal Hegde, Rotary NR Pura president Vinay Kanive, and Sringeri Rotary president Subramanya, who joined the family in mourning.Deeply rooted in Malnad, Murthy was affected by the region's agricultural crisis. He participated in farmers' movements, pressing state and Union govts for solutions to combat the yellow leaf disease devastating arecanut crops. An environmentalist, he championed the conservation of Tunga River and was a vocal critic of unregulated development projects.Architect Sreedhar Kallahalla Gangadhar said, "He believed in transforming society for the better. Despite being a small farmer, he fearlessly spoke out against corruption and environmental degradation."Activist Ravi Krishna Reddy described Murthy as an exemplary figure: "His writings in the social media served society's greater good, and his involvement in anti-corruption and environmental causes was inspiring.
