Karnataka: Cow dung worth Rs 1.25 lakh stolen, govt employee held

cow dung theft

incident based on a complaint lodged by the

Department of Animal Husbandry

. As the cow dung is extensively used in the agricultural and horticultural activities, it has good demand from the farmers.


According to the police, the case is involved theft of 35 to 40 tractor loads of cow dung worth of Rs 1.25 lakhs. A supervisor of the Animal Husbandry department has been arrested in connection with the case.

Speaking to The Times of India, Birur CPI Sathyarnaya Swamy informed that senior officials of the department of Animal Husbandry recently approached the Yagati police with a complaint that 35 to 40 tractor loads of cow dung stored inside the Basur Amritmahal Kaval under the Yagati police station limits is missing from the stock place. They alleged that the cow dung stock is shifted from the Amritmahala Kaval to a private land. Total worth of the cow dung was according to the complaint is Rs 1.25 lakhs.

"Based on the complaint which is lodged by the Joint Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, we have registered a theft case.

We have arrested a supervisor of the department of animal husbandry in connection with the case," he said.

Police informed that even the land lord in whose land the cow dung is found is also named in the FIR. Police also stated that the cow dung stock will be handed over to the Animal Husbandry department after the mahajar.

It can be recalled that the cow dung and urine are extensively used in the farming activities across the state as it is considered as the best fertiliser to many crops.
