Thane: A 27-year-old worker employed for painting the railway bridge over the creek between Mumbra and Diva died by drowning after he allegedly slipped off his perch and fell into the murky waters on Thursday, officials informed.
According to Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell, the incident was reported around 4 pm when the victim, identified as Jalaluddin Waqar Ali, was assigned painting work on the bridge on the fast line between Diva and Mumbra.
“Ali probably lost his foothold and fell into the creek waters, following which his colleagues alerted the Mumbra police and fire brigade personnel that reached the spot and launched a search operation. Rescue teams recovered the worker’s lifeless body from the creek and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead,” Tadvi said.
An accidental death case is being registered with the Mumbra police, officials said.
