MUMBAI: A 70-year-old woman and her 38-year-old daughter-in-law was found dead inside their flat in a middle class housing society in Shivaji Park in Dadar on Thursday.

Usha Kangutkar and her daughter-in-law Akshata, were residing at Jai Hanuman Co-operative Housing Society opposite Ruparel College in Shivaji Park in Dadar.

The circumstances under which their bodies were found have pointed out a foul play of at least one murder. Police have found bottle of poison from near Akshata.

Shivaji Park police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and called for forensic science lab experts and finger prints to study minute details of the scene of crime.

Senior police officials said that they are in process of registering a murder case.

The bodies were discovered by Akshata's 14-year-old son. Akshata's husband Laxmikant works for some computer company.

According to the police, on Thursday late morning, while Laxmikant Kangutkar went out for work, their son returned home to find the two dead. "From the circumstances it appears that the daughter-in-law in fit of rage may have strangulated her mother-in-law and then she committed suicide by consuming poison. Now we don't know what was the dispute between the two and how the event unfolded; this is just presumption. To get to the bottom of the case we are in the process of recording statements of the family members," said an officer of Shivaji Park police station.
