MUMBAI: Western Railway has decided to increase its

suburban special trains

from 350 to 500 services per day from Monday, September 21.

WR chief public relations officer Sumeet Thakur said, "The decision was taken to ensure social distancing in trains as the number of

passengers

have increased from 1.25 lakh per day to 2.25 lakh per day."

WR and CR had begun to run suburban services from June 15, of which 200 were on CR and 162 on WR.

From July 1, services were increased to 350 each on WR and CR. Trains are running at a frequency of 15-20 minutes, which leads to a build-up of crowds during peak hours. The decision to increase services comes after demands from several passengers due to growing crowds.
