Violent clash in Mumbai's Goregaon during religious procession: 3 injured, 10 arrested; BMC takes bulldozer action
MUMBAI: Three members of the Bajrang Dal were seriously injured after a violent clash broke out between two groups during a religious procession in Mumbai’s Goregaon area, police said.
The incident took place on Sunday night in the Dindoshi–Santosh Nagar locality of suburban Goregaon. Police said 10 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
According to officials, the clash began following a dispute over playing loud devotional songs during the procession.
The argument escalated into a large-scale brawl, with weapons such as swords and iron rods allegedly used.
Three members of the Bajrang Dal, a right-wing outfit, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Jogeshwari Trauma Care Hospital, police said.
Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to rioting, against the accused.
On Monday morning, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated demolition of homes allegedly belonging to some of those arrested, stating that they were "unauthorized" constructions.
Officials said the action was taken on the basis of complaints received earlier by municipal authorities.
A heavy police presence remains in the area, and officials said the situation is now under control.
