Vasai's notorious Land Mafia Dara-Randha booked in multi crore cheating case
VASAI: The notorious land mafia of Vasai Virar Surendra Singh and Arvind Singh aka "Dara-Randha" have been booked in a multi-crore land deal by the Waliv police (Vasai) a couple of days ago. The cops were successful in nabbing Surendra Singh aka Dara, 48yrs, while Arvind aka Randha is currently absconding.
The cops have booked them under sections of cheating and are exploring options to book them under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 1999 (MPID Act). The court sent Surendra to 4-day police remand when he was presented in the Vasai court on Tuesday afternoon. The case is being investigated by Crime Branch Unit - 4.
The complainant in this case is a Mumbai resident, Brijesh Yadav, 44yrs, who is a real estate developer in Vasai Virar region. As per his FIR, he had sold around 210 guntha (5.25 acres) of land in Rajavali, Vasai east to Surendra and Arvind - 150 guntha in 2020 and 60 guntha after a couple of years. This deal was fixed at around 14 crores. However the duo only paid him around 7 crores while the remaining amount was still pending. Yadav approached the cops as this duo did not pay him back but threatened and abused when he asked his money.
On the other hand the duo re-sold the land to around 300/400 chawl developers who built around 700 plus illegal chawls and sold it to unsuspecting buyers, coming from poor background, who did not know that they were illegal. The chawl gets more credibility when water and electricity connections are given to such chawls.
A senior crime branch official said that, "we will now call all the plot buyers and understand the money trail in this". As per the complainant he was given cash of around one crore and ten lakhs by the accused. The officials also confirmed that the accused have several cases registered against them.
