MUMBAI: Govardhan Eco Village (GEV), a wellness destination at Palghar registered under MahaBhraman scheme of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) received the prestigious UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) Award for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism.
Valsa Nair singh, principal secretary of tourism and culture, maharashtra, said it was the yoga culture nurtured at this institute had won it the international honour.
K H Govind Raj, MD ofMTDC, said his organisation was happy to be associated with the village as it was significantly contributing to health tourism by attracting a larger number of tourists.
According to MTDC officials innovation in public policy, governance, enterprises, research and technology were the criteria based on which the eco-villege belonging to ISCKON was selected from Asia as the UNWTO award winner.
