Three held for illegal transport of liquor in Navi Mumbai, contraband worth Rs 19 lakh seized

Navi Mumbai: The State Excise Department laid a trap in Poyanje and Tupgaon village on the old Mumbai-Pune highway in Panvel taluka on Feb 18 and seized a huge contraband of illegally transported liquor worth Rs 19 lakh.The excise department team initially confiscated 12 bottles of duplicate IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and branded foreign liquor of different brands after initially detaining the three accused, along with their two mobile phones and a four-wheeler worth a total of Rs 5.6 lakh.
Upon further inquiry of the three detained accused, they led the excise officials to a farmhouse in Tupgaon, Khalapur, from where the officials seized 67 bottles of different brands of high-quality duplicate foreign liquor, four bottles of country-made liquor, along with duplicate labels and bottle caps of branded liquor, and the mobile phones of the accused. The total seizure was collectively worth Rs 19 lakh.An FIR was registered against the accused, Binnu Kallur, Vinesh S and Biju Ulwa, under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1949, after which they were arrested.
