Navi Mumbai: An unidentified boy, aged 13-15, crashed a wedding at a marriage hall in Koparkhairane and stole a purse of the bride's mother containing gold ornaments and cash collectively worth Rs 5 lakh as well as two mobile phones last Sunday. An FIR has been lodged.
Umesh Gavali, senior inspector, Koparkhairane police, said the Dombivli family discovered the theft in the afternoon but filed a complaint after the festivities were over at night. CCTV footage showed a boy grabbing the purse that the bride's mother had left on the stage while attending to guests.
As per the complaint, the purse had gold ornaments worth Rs 4.3 lakh, Rs 70,000 in cash, including Rs 50,000 gifted to the bride, and two phones. "The boy is being traced. It is possible that he was used by a gang of thieves to target weddings," said Gavali.
