Thane: At the 3rd Asian Youth Games Athletics Championship in Bahrain, Thane teenager Shourya Ambure (17) won two silver medals with record timings. In the 100-metre hurdles final, she clocked a personal best of 13.73 seconds to finish second behind a Chinese competitor. She then helped the Indian girls' squad secure silver in the team medley relay alongside Bhumika Nehate, Tannu, and Edwin Jason, setting a new national record of two minutes and 9.65 seconds, eclipsing India's previous mark of two minutes and 10.08 seconds set at the World Youth Championship in Ostrava in 2007.
Her coach, Ajit Kulkarni, said she made no errors in her attempts to reach the final and claimed the silver in her pet event of the 100-metre hurdles. He added that by opening the relay with a 100-metre lap, she gave the team the momentum to finish second on the podium. "The medal-winning stint has given me impetus to perform even better in the upcoming games both at domestic level and internationals," said Ambure.
