MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday met Governor Mohammed Fazal and apprised him of developments in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam in which eight police officials, including a Joint Commissioner of Police, have been arrested.
Shinde, who returned from Delhi on Tuesday morning, headed straight to the Raj Bhawan and met the governor.
The chief minister was earlier scheduled to meet the governor in the afternoon but met him in the morning, in view of the aggressive stance adopted on the Telgi case by the Sena-BJP combine.
The saffron combine leaders had on Monday called on Fazal, demanding the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Chagan Bhujbal for his alleged failure to check growing corruption among the police force.
The Opposition leaders had alleged that Telgi''s stamp paper racket could not have taken place without the "blessings" of top politicians.
The police officials arrested, include IPS officer Sridhar Vagal under stringent MCOCA for their alleged involvement in abetting the fake stamp paper racket.
