MUMBAI: They are also squaring off against each other in the CM strongholds of Thane and Kalyan. For Shinde’s party, nearly 90% of the contests are against Thackeray’s nominees.

Their national partners, BJP and Congress, are in a direct contest in 15 of the 48 LS seats in the state. In Mumbai, they face off in North Central and North, where BJP has replaced its sitting MPs.



BJP, which won 23 seats in the state last time, has named nominees for 28 seats—including Palghar, where it announced the candidature of Dr Hemant Savara late Thursday on the eve of the deadline for filing nominations.

NCP vs NCP will play out in two seats in the Pawars’ bastions of Baramati and Shirur.
