Mumbai News Updates: City continues to log less than 100 Covid-19 cases for third day in row; one death reported
Mumbai on Wednesday reported 67 new Covid-19 cases, taking its overall infection tally to 11,62,990, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The fatality count in the metropolis rose to 19,766 after one person died due to the infection, the civic body said in its bulletin: Stay with TOI for all the latest updates.

Thane: Woman dies after falling from fifth floor balcony
A 65-year-old woman died after falling from the balcony of her fifth floor flat in Thane city on Wednesday afternoon, an official said. The incident took place in Kasarvadavli area, said Avinash Sawant, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Rohini Mulki, a resident of flat number 503 in the 22-storey building, fell and landed in the balcony of a flat on the second floor around 4pm, he said. Police have registered a case of accidental death for now and are conducting further probe, he added.

Mumbai on Wednesday reported 67 new Covid-19 cases, taking its overall infection tally to 11,62,990, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. This is for the third day in a row that Mumbai has registered less than 100 coronavirus positive cases.

A day after NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced that he would step down as party head, Union minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane Wednesday said the 82-year-old leader's presence was needed in politics as well as his party's president. Pawar on Tuesday dropped a bombshell by saying he is stepping down as chief of the NCP which he founded and helmed since 1999, but not retiring from public life. His nephew Ajit Pawar later announced his uncle will need two to three days to "think over" his decision. (PTI)

Nationalist Congress Party state president Jayant Patil said on Wednesday that he was among several people who had joined the Nationalist Congress Party after being inspired by "Pawar saheb's" leadership, a day after Sharad Pawar announced he would be stepping down as NCP chief. Asked if he would work under Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule as the national president as her name is doing the rounds for the top post, Patil said whatever decision the party takes, everyone has to accept it. (PTI)

He has asked for some time and we should grant him that. Some of our workers wanted him to withdraw his resignation. Sharad Pawar credits Vilasrao Deshmukh for maturity to lead alliance govt in Maha; says he doubted Prithviraj Chavan's capability
Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has credited late Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh with having proper understanding and maturity to lead a coalition government in Maharashtra, and said he had doubts on the capability of Prithviraj Chavan under whose leadership the Congress-NCP alliance lost power to the BJP in 2014 after ruling for 15 years. In an updated edition of his Marathi autobiography 'Lok Majhe Sangati' (People Accompany Me) launched on Tuesday, Pawar wrote that Deshmukh led the Congress-NCP alliance government in an atmosphere which was easy and with mutual understanding. Deshmukh's successors Sushilkumar Shinde and Ashok Chavan carried on his tradition, Pawar noted. (PTI)

Key NCP functionaries from Thane, including MLA Jitendra Awhad who also holds the party general secretary post along with Thane city president Anand Paranjape, sent their resignations to the party on Wednesday afternoon, a day after announcement of Sharad Pawar to step down from party president post.
