Thane: Woman dies after falling from fifth floor balcony

A 65-year-old woman died after falling from the balcony of her fifth floor flat in Thane city on Wednesday afternoon, an official said. The incident took place in Kasarvadavli area, said Avinash Sawant, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Rohini Mulki, a resident of flat number 503 in the 22-storey building, fell and landed in the balcony of a flat on the second floor around 4pm, he said. Police have registered a case of accidental death for now and are conducting further probe, he added.

Mumbai continues to log less than 100 Covid-19 cases for third day in row; one death reported

Mumbai on Wednesday reported 67 new Covid-19 cases, taking its overall infection tally to 11,62,990, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The fatality count in the metropolis rose to 19,766 after one person died due to the infection, the civic body said in its bulletin. This is for the third day in a row that Mumbai has registered less than 100 coronavirus positive cases.

A day after NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced that he would step down as party head, Union minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane Wednesday said the 82-year-old leader's presence was needed in politics as well as his party's president. Key NCP functionaries from Thane, including MLA Jitendra Awhad who also holds the party general secretary post along with Thane city president Anand Paranjape, sent their resignations to the party on Wednesday afternoon, a day after announcement of Sharad Pawar to step down from party president post.
