SC dismisses pre-arrest bail pleas of two former directors of PMC Bank

MUMBAI: After a sessions court rejected the

pre-arrest bail

and Bombay high court too withdrew interim protection to two former directors of Punjab & Maharashtra Co -operative Bank, Daljit Singh Bal and

Gurnam Singh Hothi

, in the PMC Bank scam, the Supreme Court has dismissed their bail applications.

Last month, the two moved Supreme Court with a special leave petition, seeking anticipatory bail after Bombay high court justice Sadhana Jadhav last month, while rejecting their bail applications, stated that both accused do not deserve any discretionary relief.

On May 2, the sessions court had passed an order not to arrest them until further orders. On July 23, the high court, vacated its interim 'not to arrest' order. On August 28, the Supreme Court dismissed their special leave petition against the high court order.

The Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, saying the two accused who are evading arrest for the past five months have exhausted all legal remedies and they will now be able to arrest and interrogate them.

Joint commissioner of police ((EOW) ) said that they will now take appropriate action against the two accused.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai probing the multi-crore PMC Bank scam had issued a look-out circular against Bal and 10 former directors of the bank.
