RWITC plans clubhouse with Oly-size pool, golf course, tennis & squash courts

Mumbai: After securing a deal which ensures a 30-year lease extension for the 92.6-acre plot of the Mahalaxmi racecourse under its control, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) is set to present to the BMC a comprehensive plan to build a world-class clubhouse that will have an Olympic-size swimming pool, tennis, squash and basketball courts and a nine-hole golf course. Apart from these facilities, once greenlit by the civic body, the proposed clubhouse will also have 50-plus rooms for members, a few utility stores, four restaurants, a gymnasium, a spa, a beauty salon, etc.Following the deal inked earlier this month, the BMC has assumed control over 120 acres of the racecourse land to turn it into an international standard garden/theme park, while the remaining 92.6 acres belong to RWITC for unhindered racing activities and to build a modern clubhouse. Sources said the RWITC managing committee has cleared the plan for the clubhouse which, once completed, will put to shade all other clubs in the city.
