‘Refund flyer declared as no-show for cancelled flight’

Mumbai: A consumer district redressal commission has directed the defunct Go Airlines (India) Ltd, which shut in May 2023, to refund Rs 63,161 to a passenger with 8% interest since Dec 26, 2019, for a last-minute flight cancellation. It said the airline itself acknowledged it cancelled the flight and offered a refund but later said it merely rescheduled and termed the flyer a ‘no-show'.Complainant Pradeep Virdi booked group tickets from Goa to Chandigarh. Three hours before departure, the airline cancelled the flight, offering refund or rescheduling. Citing urgency, Virdi took a more expensive flight and was later denied a refund. The rules didn't mandate refunds for delays caused by circumstances beyond its control, such as weather, ATC curbs or other operational constraints, the airline said.
