MUMBAI : Two gangs of car thieves were busted by the Colaba and MRA Marg police this week. The common thread connecting the two cases was that the arrests were made in West Bengal.
In the first case, on August 31, the Colaba police registered a case of a stolen Bolero. "The police got a tip-off last week from the Durgapur police in WB about the stolen car.
Four people, including the gang leader Guddu Khan were arrested ,'' senior inspector Deepak Vishwasrao said. "This is an inter-state racket in which thieves were hired to steal cars. The stolen cars were handed over to Khan. He then hired drivers to transport the cars to Durgapur. Another set of car thieves carries on the racket up to Assam and Nagaland where the vehicles are ultimately sold off,''said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, DCP (Zone I).
In the second case, the MRA Marg police, who were informed about a stolen Pajero on September 2, sent out a wireless message to the National Crime Records Bureau. On September 9, the MRA Marg police were informed by the Ailpurdwar police in WB that two persons had been arrested with the vehicle.
