MUMBAI: A sessions court on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail applications of two bookies—Pawan Jaipur and Sanjay Jaipur—in the IPL betting case. The two brothers, who are reportedly holed up in Dubai, filed the pleas last month. The court directed them to surrender and gave them a week to appeal in the Bombay high court. They are planning to move the HC for anticipatory bail, said a source.
Sanjay and Pawan run a jewellery store in Jaipur. The two were in touch with Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf and even footed his shopping bills, the police said.
“The interrogation of the two brothers will shed light on the involvement of more people in the case,” said a police officer. Meanwhile, the bookie, Shoban Mehta, arrested from Goa has been remanded in police custody. “Mehta is likely to spill the beans on some builders who placed bets through him,” said a police officer.
