NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai police commissioner, A K Sharma, has strongly denied ever giving a clean chit to the son of murder victim
Sandhya Singh.
Talking to mediapersons on Friday, Sharma said: “A local newspaper has quoted Sandhya Singh’s husband, Jai Prakash, saying that Navi Mumbai police had interrogated his son Raghuveer for nearly 40 hours and then given him a clean chit.
This is incorrect, since we never gave Raghuveer a clean chit.”
A senior officer, who was part of the probe, had told TOI that Raghuveer was a suspect. “But before we could question him further, he complained about harassment to the state home department and the case was transferred to the Mumbai crime branch.”
The CP said before the Sandhya murder case was transferred to Mumbai crime branch, Navi Mumbai police had only taken the statement of Raghuveer on a few occasions in the presence of his father Jai Prakash. “We could never properly interrogate Raghuveer, so this claim of being questioned for 40 hours is exaggerated,” he said.
