BB NayakNAVI MUMBAI: As the (NMIA) prepares to open its doors to the public, the of Maharashtra has made a strong appeal for the launch of a connecting NMIA to Nanded, home to the revered Takht Sri Hazur Sahib. The request was formally submitted by Bal Malkit Singh, Executive Chairman of the Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy and Convenor of the Maharashtra Sikh Association, to the Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded is one of the five sacred Takhts in Sikhism and attracts lakhs of pilgrims annually from across the country and abroad. Community leaders argue that a direct flight from Navi Mumbai would greatly benefit devotees, making travel to the holy site more convenient and accessible. The proposal also aims to serve the Guru Nanak Nam Leva Sangat, further strengthening their spiritual and social commitments.
According to Singh, "Navi Mumbai International Airport will be a global gateway for Maharashtra. A direct NMIA-Nanded flight will be a true service to the lakhs of devotees visiting Takht Hazur Sahib and a major step in boosting the socio-cultural and economic growth of the Marathwada region." The community believes that improved air connectivity will not only ease the journey for pilgrims but also boost tourism, economic development, and cultural exchange in the Marathwada region.
"We have expressed gratitude to CM Fadnavis for his progressive vision and special initiatives for the Guru Nanak Nam Leva Sangat, and have appealed for his personal intervention to ensure this vital connectivity is established. The Sikh-Punjabi community remains hopeful that their long-standing demand will be fulfilled with the support of the state and central govts," said Singh.
