Mumbai's temperature rises further, slight dip expected by Friday

MUMBAI: The city recorded maximum temperatures of 38.1 degrees on Thursday beating the highest maximum temperature recorded in March last year of 37.5 degrees which was logged on March 17,2020.
However according to IMD officials a slight dip in temperatures could be expected by Friday.
On Thursday the maximum temperatures recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory was 38.1 degrees which was 5.2 degrees above normal.This was also an increase from the 37.3 degrees recorded a day ago. Meanwhile the IMD Colaba observatory recorded maximum temperatures of 33.8 degrees which was 2.5 degrees above normal.
On social media like Twitter pointed out towards the rise in temperatures. "I won't need a straightening machine to straighten my curly hair, Mumbai heat seems enough." read a tweet by the handle @thespeakingeyes.
Explaining the reason for the spike in temperatures, Mahesh Palawat- Vice President, Meteorology And Climate Change, Skymet Weather Services Pvt Ltd said, "In the month of March, the average rains is nil and since last few days north easterly winds are blowing which is dry and hot. These winds have been coming from the central parts of the country where temperatures have been high already. Apart from it the sea breeze is also setting in later and this dealyed setting in of it is causing the temperatures of stay high."
Meanwhile the minimum temperatures recorded by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory also continued to stay on the higher side as the IMD Colaba observatory recorded minimum temperatures of 23 degrees and IMD Colaba observatory 20.6 degrees which was 1.3 degrees and 0.6 degrees above normal. The relative humidity recorded by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 58% and 30%.
Shubhangi Bhute, scientist, IMD Mumbai said, "From Friday onwards a drop in temperature can be expected."
The all time highest maximum temperature recorded for the month of March has been 41.7 degrees.
