MUMBAI:General Manager, Central Railway, V K Manglik on Wednesday handed outappreciation awards and compensation to employees and families of victims caughtin the terrorist attack on CST.Cheques for Rs 5,000 and commendationcertificates were given to RPF constable Jullu Yadav and railway announcer V DZende for acts of bravery that saved several lives after terrorists stormed thestation. Yadav took position behind a pillar and shot at the terrorists amidstthe chaos while Zende repeatedly issued announcements on the public addresssystem, warning commuters to keep off the main concourse where the fidayeenswere firing and exit from the rear of the station.The GM also handedover compensation cheques of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of M LChaudhary, head constable, RPF, Sushil Sharma, assistant chief ticket inspectorand Horbabai Solanki, a safai karmachari.In addition, Manglik alsogave away cash awards of Rs 5,000 each to the following railway staff for theirexemplary courage in the face of terror: inspector Sandip Khiratkar, subinspector Kiran Bhosale, sub inspector K Suryavanshi, assistant sub inspectorRamjiwan Napit, constable Feroz Khan, head clerk P N Giri, assistant chiefticket Inspector A K Tiwari, senior ticket checker R H Dubey and luggagesupervisor A K Kaskar.
The general manager has also carried out asurprise inspection of the station and suggested a few locations whereadditional CCTVs needed to be installed.The GM also spoke of procuring bettersecurity equipment."Security is being discussed at various levels and it ispremature to talk if CR would employ private security agencies,'' said railwaychief PRO S C Mudgerikar.As part of additional security, 250additional RPF from the special task forced have also been added to the existing1,900 on the CR suburban section and bunkers have been set up in three places atCST which are manned by the GRP and RPF.
