MUMBAI: An argument between a BEST
bus
conductor and a
passenger
over tendering change snowballed after which the passenger allegedly hurled a
stone
at the bus. A co-passenger was injured on the head and eye and a windowpane of the bus was damaged.
The alleged stone-pelter, Zubair Khan, a resident of Nehru Nagar in
Kurla
, was arrested. The passenger who was injured due to the stone-pelting is out of danger.
The police said that on Monday afternoon Zubair Khan was travelling on
BEST
bus plying on route 356 was on its way to Santacruz bus depot. Khan, while buying his ticket, held out a Rs 100 note and the conductor, Prakash Rathod, told Khan to tender change. “This sparked a minor tiff between them,” said an officer from Nehru Nagar police station.
The conductor then halted the bus and asked Khan to disembark, said the officer.
Even as Khan got off the bus, the verbal exchange between him
and the conductor continued. “Khan, who was standing on the street, hurled abuses at the conductor. In a fit of rage, he flung a stone in the direction of the bus,” said the officer. “This crashed the windowpane of the bus and a passenger sitting by the window was injured.”
The conductor immediately dialled the police control room. Within minutes a police patrol team reached the spot and took Khan into custody.
The passenger who sustained an injury to the head was taken to Rajawadi Hospital t and was later discharged. Khan has been sent to police custody.
