Mumbai New Updates: City reports 575 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours

The financial capital saw 529 infections on Monday, pushing the caseload to 7,17,108. Now, there are 15,550 active cases in the city. Also, Dharavi on Monday recorded zero COVID-19 cases. The Bombay High Court on Monday gave the Maharashtra government time till June 22 to take an appropriate decision on door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination for the elderly and disabled. Meanwhile, it will no longer be mandatory in Maharashtra for candidates to crowd up at the RTOs to get a learner's driving licence - it will now be available online, sitting at home. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday launched the first-ever Online Learner's Licence system, based on the Aadhaar card.

Mumbai: Covid 'The Silent Tormentor' has upped risk of abuse for elderly

An increasing sense of despondency and fractured communication with family members were among the chief feelings conveyed by senior citizens in a recent nationwide survey titled 'The Silent Tormentor -Covid-19 and the elderly' released by the NGO HelpAge India on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15. In the report, over 60% said the risk of elders suffering abuse had increased during the pandemic.

BMC chief restricts private centre from outside Mumbai to hold vaccination camps in the city

The BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal in fresh orders issued on Monday, restricted any private centre from outside Mumbai to hold vaccination camps in the city. The order also stated that at no BMC, state and private vaccination centres will be allowed to have any kind of political party hoardings, banners, posters within the centre. This comes in wake of several political party persons in the city holding vaccination camps in some cases even facilitating the same for large housing societies.

Maharashtra reports 8,129 COVID-19 cases, lowest since March 2; 14,732 recover, 200 die
Maharashtra on Monday reported 8,129 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest single-day count since March 2, taking the state's tally to 59,17,121, while 200 more deaths pushed the toll to 1,12,696, the health department said. 14,732 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recovered cases to 56,54,003. The state's COVID-19 recovery rate is 95.55 per cent and the case fatality rate is 1.90 per cent. The state currently has 1,47,354 active cases of coronavirus.
