Kalyan-Dombivli report 144 new cases

The twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli reported 144 new cases of coronavirus and three new deaths on Tuesday. With 66 patients discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries has climbed to 1,30,994. At present, there are 1,452 active cases in the KDMC limits.

Three men get 10 years in jail in 2012 terror case

The special NIA court here on Tuesday sentenced three persons, arrested in 2012 from Nanded in Maharashtra for conspiring to kill Hindu leaders and journalists to create unrest in the country, to ten years in prison.Special judge D E Kothalikar acquitted two other accused for lack of evidence.The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad had in 2012 arrested five persons from Nanded. The case was later taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).The court on Tuesday convicted Mohammed Akram, Mohammad Muzammil and Mohammed Sadique under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Arms Act and sentenced them to ten years' imprisonment.Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Illiyas were acquitted for want of evidence.

Haj 2021 gets cancelled due to COVID pandemic

The Haj Committee of India (a statutory body constituted under the Act of Parliament No 35 of 2002) on Tuesday cancelled applications for Haj 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to allow citizens and residents inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to attend Haj 1442 in limited numbers," stated the Haj Committee of India in a press release. Actor Pearl V Puri, arrested in minor's rape case, granted bail

Television actor Pearl V Puri, who has been accused of allegedly raping a minor, was granted bail by a Vasai court on Tuesday.The actor was nabbed on June 4 on charges of molesting and raping a 5-year-old girl two years ago. He was then produced before the Vasai Sessions Court on June 5, which sent him to 14-days of judicial custody. Full story here

Tourists visiting Matheran sent back home

Several tourists were sent back from the Matheran hill station on Sunday. The local administration did not allow them inside fearing Covid spread. The authorities have said that illegal entry to the hill station will attract fine by police. Monsoon revellers arrived at the Neral-Matheran road. Some of them spent time at the roadside waterfalls clogging the traffic. Over 200 tourists, who reached the Dasturi Naka on Sunday morning to enter the hill station, were stranded after obtaining an e-pass, as only few were allowed to enter the hill station. Feeling sick after muck poured on me at behest of Sena MLA, claims contractor's employee

Days after he was forced to sit on a waterlogged road and garbage was thrown on him at the behest of a Shiv Sena MLA in Mumbai for allegedly not cleaning a drain properly, the victim, who is working as a supervisor for a civic contractor, on Tuesday claimed to have contracted an infection and developed difficulty in breathing after the incident.Justifying his act, Chandivali MLA Dilip Lande had said the contractor was supposed to clean the nullah in Sanjay Nagar area in Kurla properly which he had not done leading to water-logging during rains.After the video of Saturday's incident went viral, Lande said he wanted the "contractor" to realise his responsibility.

Navi Mumbai ex-cop nabbed for killing one son, injuring the other

A retired Assistant Sub-Inspector of Navi Mumbai Police was arrested early Tuesday on charges of allegedly shooting two of his sons, of whom one has succumbed, officials said here.The incident happened on Monday evening at their Airoli home, where the accused -- retired ASI Bhagwan Patil, 73, lives with his oldest son and other family members.
