Fire at Virar COVID hospital

A massive fire broke out in the ICU of Vijay Vallabh COVID care hospital in Virar in the wee hours of Friday, claiming 14 lives. The fire was preceded by an explosion in the AC unit of the ICU. 14 patients dead

As many as 13 patients -- eight men and five women -- died on the spot when the blaze erupted, while one patient succumbed to burns after being moved to a nearby hospital. Entry, exit points closed

All the entrance and exit points of railway stations in Mumbai have been closed and only a single entry and exit point will remain operational now after the fresh restrictions came into effect from today. As per the guidelines under the state government's "Break the Chain" order, only government personnel with ID cards will be allowed on the local trains starting 8 pm on Thursday till 7 am on May 1. CM Thackeray-PM Modi meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Friday with chief ministers of 10 states with most number of COVID-19 cases. The meeting via video conferencing comes amid a huge surge in coronavirus cases, which have now clocked a daily total of over 3 lakh in the country.
