Mumbai marathon raises ₹40.7cr through charity
Mumbai: Though the Tata Mumbai Marathon was making its physical presence after a gap of three years due to the pandemic, the event’s ability to garner charity remained top notch with Rs 40.7 crore being raised with this year’s edition.At the awards night to felicitate the top contributors to charity, NGOs, corporate teams, individuals achieving various goals and even youngsters efforts at charity was recognised.Ramesh Bais, the Maharashtra governor, who presented the awards, said: “I have heard and read about Mumbai Marathon but never knew the great social causes associated with it. In just 20 years, Mumbai Marathon has become the most loved marathon in India and the pride of Maharashtra. The whole of Mumbai came together to welcome Mumbai Marathon after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.“I’m pleased to know that in 2023, Mumbai Marathon raised funds for important causes and raised Rs 40.7cr. Through the philanthropy award, Tata Mumbai Marathon has ignited hopes in the lesser privileged people,” said the governor.The Mumbai Marathon has raised Rs 357.1cr so far across all editions of the event. The money that the 2023 event has raised will be used for the benefit over 700 NGOs. The sectors supported were healthcare, education, animal welfare & environment, women empowerment, livelihood, social, civic & community development.The winners: NGOs: Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (₹ 5.5Cr), United Way (₹2.6Cr), Central Chinmaya Mission Trust (₹2.6Cr). Corporate teams: Jasani Jewellery (₹1Cr), Godrej & Boyce (₹76.6 lakh), NTT India (25Lakh). Individuals (raising over Rs 1cr): Navya & Gagan Banga (₹1.1Cr), Sadashiv Rao (₹1.1Cr), Manisha Khemlani (₹1Cr), Shyam Jasani (₹1Cr). Over Rs 50 lakh: Meera Mehta (₹54 Lakh), Aarti Shah (₹52 Lakh), Villy Doctor (₹50.5 Lakh). Over Rs 25 lakh: Avinash Joshi (₹25 Lakh). Under-21 & Rs 1 lakh: Anyssa Kothari (₹ 12.3 Lakh).
