Mumbai: Man injured as phone kept on charge explodes and causes fire

AMBERNATH: A 22-year-old suffered minor burn injuries on his leg after his high-end phone kept for charging suddenly exploded on Sunday night at his Ambernath home in Kohajgaon area.


Amit Bhandari, who is employed as a driver, said he had bought the phone last year for Rs 26,000. On Sunday night, after returning home from a wedding, he kept the phone on the bed and plugged it in for charging. Ten minutes later, the phone exploded and his bed caught fire. He suffered minor burns on one leg. Bhandari said he threw buckets of water to douse the flames and rushed to a private hospital nearby and got himself admitted. He was discharged on Monday.

On Monday, he sent an online complaint to the phone manufacturer, but he did not get a response till Wednesday. Last December, four members of a Shahpur family suffered burns after a phone that was being charged exploded.

In fire youth has suffered minor burn injuries on his leg. Following to explosion in to Iphone mobile phone which is known as premium phone youth has written company to look in to matter.

The incident has came to light in Kohajgaon where injured Amit Bhandari who works as driver. Amit alleged that on Sunday night after coming home after attending a wedding, he plugged his phone for charging and kept phone on bed. TNN

Amit said it was around 10 minutes when phone suddenly exploded badly injuring his one leg and till he control fire of mobile he saw his bed also caught fire. Looking at fire on bed,Amit said he immediately using water from house in injured condition control fire.

Amit later got admitted to a private hospital for his injuries but on Monday evening he got discharged from hospital. After getting discharge from hospital, Amit now have written Apple company which manufactures iPhone mobile phones to look in to matter.

Amit alleged that iPhone he is using for last many years. Last year after his old Iphone got damaged he bought another Iphone 6 by spending money of Rs 26000 and it is hardly 14 months he bought phone which exploded. Amit alleged that if costlier iPhone will get exploded than how we can be safe with other brand mobile phones. However on Wednesday till news going to press Amit claimed to did not get any response from company over his complaint.
