Mumbai Infrastructure Boost: LBS Marg-BKC Flyover Connector Nears Early Completion, Promises Seamless Traffic Flow

Work on the elevated connector linking the LBS Marg flyover in Kurla with the BKC flyover has already reached 85% completion, with construction progressing at a rapid pace. Originally scheduled for completion by December 2026, civic officials have internally targeted an advanced completion date of December 20, 2025, a full year ahead of schedule. The early timeline demonstrates the BMC’s proactive approach to addressing Mumbai’s chronic traffic congestion along this crucial east-west corridor.

The project, valued at Rs 29.8 crore, was officially awarded in November 2023. It forms a critical part of Mumbai’s infrastructure development plan aimed at enhancing connectivity between the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the LBS Marg stretch in Kurla. The investment reflects the civic body’s commitment to easing commuter movement in one of the city’s busiest arterial routes.

Civic engineers emphasise that the new elevated connector will drastically improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for motorists. By providing a direct link between BKC and LBS Marg, commuters who previously faced long delays due to the gap between the two flyovers can expect smoother, uninterrupted travel. The connector is expected to benefit both daily commuters and commercial vehicles, making movement across this busy corridor faster and more efficient.

The elevated structure spans 260 meters in length and has a width of 5.8 meters, making it capable of supporting one lane of vehicular traffic along with additional space for safe movement of two-wheelers. The design ensures that all types of vehicles can navigate the connector comfortably, while adhering to safety norms and urban mobility standards. This careful planning addresses not just traffic flow but also road safety along a heavily used route.

Currently, motorists face a bottleneck where the LBS Marg and BKC flyovers end without a direct connection. The new elevated link will eliminate this gap, offering seamless travel from BKC towards Ghatkopar and the LBS Marg stretch. This uninterrupted connection is expected to significantly reduce congestion at key junctions, enhance overall traffic efficiency, and streamline commuting in this densely populated part of Mumbai.

BMC officials have prioritized accelerated work on the project to ensure early completion, reflecting a strategic approach to urban traffic management.
