MUMBAI: Two men were arrested on Wednesday trying to allegedly extort money from actress Kritika Desai (53) after they posed as sleuths from Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and threatened to fix her in a fake drug case.

Desai was returning to her Bandra home on June 9 at 7.15 pm after a shoot at Film City in Goregaon when her car was stopped by Pawan Vishwakarma (28) and Atul Bhosale (35), who told her to step out to carry out a search of her vehicle for drugs, said Dindoshi police.

“The duo, on the pretext of questioning her, told her to show her hands to check if she consumed drugs. They told her to cooperate and showed a yellow card, which they claimed was their identity cards,” said police.

Desai asked the duo to call a woman cop to conduct a search after she got suspicious. “She then switched on her mobile camera and recorded the incident, capturing their faces. On noticing this, the duo went towards the driver’s side and tried to intimidate him. The actor asked her driver to speed away,” said police.

DCP Somnath Gharge supervised the team.
